Jesus Is Waiting
Charles Haun
“From henceforth expecting till His enemies be made
His footstool.” (KJV)
“Then to wait until His enemies should be made a stool
for His feet.” (RSV)
“From then on expectantly waiting until His enemies
should be placed as His footstool at His feet.” (Greek
Text)
Hebrews 10:13
Jesus now sits at the right hand of His Father, “waiting.”
He is waiting for something to be delivered to Him. He is
expecting a footstool, and waits for it. Who shall bring it
to Him?
This text in Hebrews is an echo from Psalm 110. There Jehovah
declared that He would place His enemies as His footstool,
at His feet (Hebrew Text). Verse two states the method He
will use:
“The LORD shall send the rod of Thy strength out of
Zion.” Psalm 110:2a
The word, "Zion," refers to the habitation of God
- the Bride. It is this “Bride Company,” which
Jehovah is about to use, to bring Jesus His footstool.
The latter part of verse two gives the springboard from which
the defeat of the enemies is accomplished.
"Tread (the winepress) in the midst of your enemies."
Psalm 110:2b (Hebrew Text)
"I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people
there was none with Me." Isaiah 63:3
His disciples forsook Him, all but John. Yet John was not
able to share his blood in our Lord's sacrifice. Even in Gethsemane
with the eleven, Jesus was alone. Alone in the judgment. Alone
at the whipping post. Alone in being mocked. Alone on the
cross. Alone in the tomb, in His descent. All for His Bride.
"Your people shall be willing in the day of Your army,
in the beauty of My holiness. From the womb of the dawn you
have the dew of your youth." (Hebrew Text) Psalm 110:3
The Church must become willing to move in the Lord's direction.
Zion will be the Lord's army in the beauty of the Father's
holiness, and will march against the forces of Satan. Then
the words of Jesus will be fulfilled, "The gates of Hell
shall not prevail against the Church."
