Understanding
the Word
El-Bethel
Those of us who are intently seeking to go further spiritually
are being impressed with the need to walk carefully before
the Lord, and obey the Scripture, which says,
"The heart of the righteous studieth
to answer." Proverbs 15:28a.
Down through the ages, all false teachings have been founded
upon some portion of the Word, which was wrongly interpreted.
The cause of this is that the apparent surface meaning of
a portion of the Word, apart from the context, was set forth
as Gospel truth.
The right way to approach the Word of God is with a keen
consciousness that without Holy Spirit enlightenment, it is
impossible to fully understand the intended meaning. One should
never be ashamed to say that he does not fully understand
a portion of the Word of God. We can never exhaust the riches
of the Lord's precious Word.
It is always dangerous to take an isolated verse, and then
establish a doctrine, which is not in accord with the teaching
of the rest of the Word. The safe course is not to wrest other
Scriptures to make them harmonize with the doubtful passage,
but to remain quiet until the Lord reveals the true and intended
meaning. When we receive light from the Lord, there is always
harmony.
The written Word, when revealed by the Spirit, never contradicts
itself. Whenever the interpretation may be doubtful, all that
the Lord requires of His servants is that they rest and wait
patiently for Him.
Then in His time, He will uncover, reveal, and confirm His
Truth.
