Truthfulness
Elayne Dwight
PC Graduate and Pastor
Truth is pure. It is opposed to hypocrisy, insincerity, and
to all unrighteousness. It is a means of confidence and peace;
for those who keep the truth in their hearts will have it
on their lips.
Anything less than a completely truthful witness will bring
shame and distortion to the Name and cause of the Lord, who
is Truth. The Psalmist said, "I have chosen the way of
truth." Each of us who name His Name are to do likewise.
Deception is the mark of the devil and his children. Satan,
the great deceiver and father of lies, has those who serve
his purposes. We read in the Psalms that "their tongues
utter deceit and their feet hasten to deception." This
is why those who lie need to create other lies to substantiate
their first lie.
Our actions will return to us a harvest of increase, either
of good or of evil. "The folly of fools is deception"
Proverbs 14:8b. If we are deceptive, we most certainly will
be deceived because, "Whatsoever a man sows that shall
he also reap.".
Jesus warned that great deception would come in the latter
days. "Evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse,
deceiving and being deceived" II Tim 3:13. When we think
we stand, we must take heed, lest we fall.
We are not to be ignorant of the devil's devices. We can
keep from becoming an easy prey to his deceptions by girding
ourselves with truth.
Jesus is the light, and we are His children. Those who are
walking in His light will not be found in fellowship with
the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather, will reprove
them, making manifest their evil deeds.
Fools will despise wisdom and instruction, but the wise will
hear and apply themselves to understand the wisdom of Godly
counsel. It is of vital importance that we hold up the mirror
of truth, that our lives may fully reflect our Lord Jesus
Christ, who is truth.
