Dear Friends,
There is a fresh stirring of the Holy Spirit that goes beyond
our being blessed or receiving provision.
Many are being moved upon to spend increased time in the
presence of the Lord. This is the key that will unlock the
door which leads toward visitation. Some ministers desire
to spend more time alone with the Lord, but are defeated by
the constant demands on their time. It is a well known fact
that few ministers spend much time in prayer. This has led
to religious form and spiritual shallowness in the Church
of our day.
However, there are pastors who are investing quality time
alone with the Lord, that their ministries might become more
anointed and effective. As a result, there is fresh spiritual
air and the sound of visitation in their services.
Others take the easier path of constant activity, seeking
to meet the needs through their efforts and various programs.
The struggle between these two aspects of our spirituality
is demonstrated in Scripture by the complaint of Martha against
Mary.
The activity of Martha in serving, contrasted to the meditation
of Mary at the feet of Jesus, causes many to say, "I
am a Martha," or, "I am a Mary." Some feel
they must emulate one or the other, but these are sisters
who live and function in the same household. They are not
to be separated.
Martha complained to Jesus because Mary was sitting at His
feet rather than helping her serve. Jesus did not tell Martha
to stop serving, but said that Mary was not to be criticized,
as she had chosen the more important function - that of devotion
at His feet.
Martha and Mary each have a part to play in our spirituality.
Our devotional time and our works are related. Those who spend
quality time in the presence of the Lord can testify that
the work which must be done will be accomplished more effectively
in a shorter time, after coming out from His presence.
Let each sister have her rightful place in your devotional
life and ministry. Spend time with both. Then Jesus will travel
far to come into your "home" for a visit. Allow
"Martha" to serve Him, but be sure that "Mary"
is given adequate time to sit at His feet.
I pray that this issue of the Banner will challenge you to
spend more time in His presence and to better know and serve
our Lord. It is extremely important that those who are being
stirred by the Lord spend adequate time in His presence.
A special "thank you" to each one of you who are
being faithful in the support of this ministry. Your gifts
are urgently needed and help to make it possible to continue.
If you desire to remain on the Banner mailing list, it is
very important that we hear from you.
I appreciate each letter that I receive, and would really
like to hear from you.
May our Lord richly bless you,
Wade E Taylor
