Enough
Arleen C. Russell
The breeze is tickling the trees today,
Can you hear their laughter?
A squirrel is scampering off with a nut -
A jay swoops after.
A wren is warbling over head;
His mate is listening.
Things seem as they were meant to be
At the world's christening.
I breathe and fill my lungs with air
Of pungent sweetness.
It's wonderful! And yet, I feel
An incompleteness.
There's a wordless longing in my heart;
I can't express it -
A yearning after something more,
I can't repress it.
The good things of this life are not
Enough, you see;
I'm searching for the one who has
Created me.
He wisely planned our every need
Would be supplied -
That squirrel, the bird, the tree and I
To be satisfied.
But I can't live by bread alone -
My Father knew it;
That's why He opened wide the door.
I just walk through it!
Through prayer I step inside and there
On heaven's sod -
I kneel before the Presence of
The Living God!
