Fall
1989
Dear Friends,
Recently, I was told of someone who traveled over 250 miles
to hear a message from the Word of God that carried an anointing
of conviction. Another person said they longed for a return
to "the old fashioned Gospel."
These are indications that we are living in a time of spiritual
famine, without realizing that we are. There is a present
need for a return to old fashioned altar tarrying meetings,
that followed a Church service. In these, he Lord was able
to powerfully work within individual lives. Along with this,
those who tarried were able to "digest" the sermon
they had heard and make the changes and commitments that the
Word of the Lord required of them.
There is a stirring deep within me concerning my spiritual
life and ministry. I am earnestly looking to the Lord for
a fresh working of His power and purpose within my being.
We are living in a time when it is said that" bigger
is better." Yet, the "word" that the Lord is
speaking to me has to do with "quality." I am looking
to the Lord for a fresh anointing upon my life that I might
have within me a "quality" Word from the Lord that
will minister to the needs of each one who comes to Pinecrest
or reads the Banner.
The words that John the Baptist spoke concerning Jesus have
become very important to me at this time. "I indeed baptize
you with water unto repentance: but He that cometh after me
is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: He
shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: Whose
fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly purge His floor,
and gather His wheat into the garner; but He will burn up
the chaff with unquenchable fire" Matthew 3:11-12.
This Baptism of the Holy Spirit and fire that John is speaking
of has come to be known as a "Baptism in the Holy Spirit
and tongues" and has lost much of its intended power
to change lives. There is an urgent need to come back to a
Gospel of Holy Ghost fire that will burn away all dross and
change lives into the image of His Son.
It is my prayer that each issue of the Banner will minister
a word of spiritual "quality" to those who are willing
to turn aside and stand before the "burning bush"
of His manifest presence in our day to hear the "Words
of the Lord."
The Bible school began this fall with the best "quality"
student body that has ever come to Pinecrest. Your prayer
support is needed that these young people will be properly
trained to better know and serve our Lord. Also, it is urgent
that you prayerfully consider sending an offering from time
to time to help with printing and mailing the Banner. If more
would do this, the need ould be met and the pressure lifted.
I encourage you to write and share your burdens, or any
suggestions that you may have concerning the Banner, or the
ministry of Pinecrest. I prayerfully read and answer each
letter I receive.
May our Lord bless you as you read this issue of the Banner.
